CACTUS is a programme founded on basic army training. However, participants find there is much more to CACTUS than simply physical training. There are also opportunities to build self-confidence, leadership skills, communication skills and socialise with a wide range of people from all walks of life.
Participants from Nelson College, Nelson College for Girls, Nayland College and Youth Nelson train three mornings a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) for eight weeks to build key attributes as individuals and as a collective group. Each session begins at 05:55am at the Nelson College for Girls gym. The course is run by an instructor, who is typically either a past or current member of the New Zealand armed forces. The training culminates in the Longest Day and graduation, during which participants put into practice all the things they have learned and developed over the course - https://naylandschoolnz.sharepoint.com/:v:/s/international/EVrdPSZCaaJJhHW3gkm2oHQBK46TS3pOn1FWbVZUnvDE4A?e=WiOsJS
